Burglary at LDS Church
A meeting house for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was broken into sometime yesterday. Robert (Bob) Knots was the first to discover what had happened. Bob Knots arrived at the meeting house on the corner of 900 North and 1600 East in Logan, Utah, around 6 a.m. Bob went to unlock the door but found that it was already unlocked. He then entered into the building to find two computer monitors smashed on the floor and that is when he immediately called the police. Sheriff Deputy Geoffrey Hastey was the first official on the scene. Hastey said that it is assumed that the burglar(s) entered through a window because there was no vandalism on the building itself. Hastey assumes that the individual entered through a window that was left open. The window was quite high and would require more than one person to reach the height of it so he assumes that someone entered into the window and then let others in through the door. The burglars then took two UPC’s and monitors leaving the keyboards behind but on the way to the door dropped the monitors. Bishop Lawrence (Larry) Shirk, of the Hillcrest 1st Ward, said that they had just renewed those machines and had cleared all confidential information to the new UPC’s. Evelyn Breathwaite, community member, said that she has lived in the neighborhood for many years and still feels safe in this community regardless of this crime.

Extra Practice News Story 2: Fire
Blaze Destroys Ogden Building
A fire broke out in an Ogden building on the corner of 21st Street and Washington Boulevard around 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The three-story building housed Pedro's Mexican Restaurant and 2 levels for apartments.
There were five people inside when the flames broke loose. Pedro Sanchez was in the kitchen cooking a hamburger for his regular customer, Michael, when a grease fire started. Pedro said, "[The flames] came fast." Pedro yelled for Michael to call the fire department as they were escaping the restaurant. On the second floor was Miguel Sanchez and his two daughters, Maria Del Mar-4, and Mercedes-2. They all escaped safely but the two girls are currently being treated for smoke inhalation at Mckay-Dee Hospital.
Deputy Fire Chief, Greg Chamberlain, was the first on the scene. He said that the building had the appropriate fire codes. Pedro Sanchez, the owner of Pedro's Mexican Restaurant, has been building his business for the past two years. His brother, Miguel Sanchez, is waiting for the legal papers that will allow him to be involved with the business. Pedro said, "We were hoping to grow in the restaurant." Pedro already has plans to rebuild with the help of some friends.
Rachel Calhoun, the owner of the building, did not have any comments at this time.
